Broken, or unwilling to answer us
A link checker that calls every refused request broken is one people learn to ignore. So a link is only listed as broken when its server says so.
The page
We download the page at the address you enter and collect the links on it, up to 25.
Each link, twice if needed
Each link is asked for with a light request first. A link that fails that is asked again with a full one before it counts as broken, because some servers refuse the light kind.
Two lists
Broken links: an error, or a page that does not exist. And links we could not check, where the server turned an automated request away: shown so you can judge them, never counted against the page.
02 / limits
One page, not a crawl
This reads the page you enter and nothing else. To check another page, enter that page.
- Other pages of the site are not visited, and their links are not followed.
- Links added to the page by JavaScript after it loads are not seen: we read the page as the server sends it.
- Only links are checked. Images, scripts and stylesheets are not.
- At most 25 links; a longer page is checked in part, and the result says so.

How do I find broken links on a web page?
Enter the page's address in the form on this page. We download it, follow up to 25 of the links on it, and list every one that answered with an error or not at all.
How many links does the broken link checker follow?
Up to 25 links on the page you enter, in the order they appear. When a page has more, the result says how many were left out. A monitored site gets up to 50 links followed on each scan.
Are links to other websites checked too?
Yes. Links to other pages on the same site and links to other websites are both followed. A server that turns automated requests away is listed separately as one we could not check, because that says nothing about whether the link works for a person.
Can broken links be checked on a schedule?
Yes, by monitoring the page: the links are followed again weekly on Free; every 12h on Pro; every 6h on Agency. Broken links are shown on the dashboard and in the weekly report on Pro and up; they do not send an alert.
