Meta tag checker

Enter a page and we read the tags search results and link previews are built from: the title, the meta description, the social share image and the mobile viewport.

No account and no card. For every check at once, run the free website health check.

01 / what it reads

Four tags, and what each one is for

They do not show on the page itself, but they shape a search result, a shared link and the page on a phone.

01

Title

The page's name in a browser tab and, usually, the headline of its search result.

02

Meta description

The sentence a search result or a link preview often shows under the title.

03

Social image

The og:image picture that WhatsApp, Slack, LinkedIn and others show when the link is shared.

04

Mobile viewport

Whether the page tells a phone to lay it out at the phone's width rather than as a shrunken desktop page.

02 / limits

Whether the tags are there

It is a check for the omissions that cost a page its search result or its preview, not an SEO audit.

  • No score, and no advice on wording or length.
  • Tags added by JavaScript after the page loads are not seen.
  • One page: other pages of the site are not read.
  • Structured data, canonical links and robots rules are not reported.

questions

Questions

How do I see a page's meta title and description?

Enter the page's address in the form on this page. The result shows the title and the meta description exactly as the page declares them, and says whether a social share image and a mobile viewport are set.

Why is a title I can see in my browser reported as missing?

Because the check reads the page as the server sends it, before any JavaScript runs. A title or description that a script adds after the page loads is not in that copy, and some crawlers and link previews do not run scripts either.

Does the meta tag checker say whether a description is too long?

No. It reports whether each tag is there and what it says. How long a title or description should be depends on where it is shown, and search engines rewrite both as they see fit.

Why is a missing social image not counted as a problem?

Because a page does fine without one: a link to it still works everywhere, with a plainer preview. A missing title or meta description is counted, since search results and link previews fall back to guessing without them.

Other free checks

  • SSL certificate checker

Checks a site's TLS certificate once, now: whether a browser trusts it, who issued it and how many days it has left.

  • Domain expiry checker

Looks a domain up with its registry over RDAP or WHOIS and reports the registrar and the date the registration runs out.

  • Broken link checker

Follows the links on one page and lists the ones that no longer answer, separately from those whose server turned the check away.

  • Website health check

Every check at once: uptime, the certificate, the domain, links and meta tags.

Tags go missing in a redesign

Monitoring re-reads the page's tags weekly on Free; every 12h on Pro; every 6h on Agency and shows what went missing on the dashboard and, on Pro and up, in the weekly report, and tells you when the site itself goes down. Free covers 3 sites, takes no card and keeps running for as long as somebody signs in.
